1. Montauk Turkey Run: Gobble, Gobble, waddle with us for the 45th annual Turkey Run for Fun, the show stopping event will be held on the Montauk Green. This year marks the fourth decade of this Thanksgiving trot. This year registration is online only and is ongoing, so clear your schedule before you clear your plate and run your heart out. It is what the holidays are about — timeless traditions and family. So run, don’t walk, to your computer and register for the event now! (NewsDay)
2. What I Did Over Summer Vacation?: Think ahead to the hot and hazy days of summer and take a step to help with water safety. Applications for lifeguard summer job TOEH and applicants to work as recreation aides are available. The job duties of RA are looking over the park and maintaining the rules of the park. These staff also are charged with ensuring park goers are having fun. (TOEH)
3. Prepare Your House For The Cold: The first below 40 degree temperatures moved into our area last week and a month earlier my husband started to prepare for it. Each autumn season he checks our heating system by turning it on in early September to make sure it is working properly before we need it to supply heat. This way if there are any problems he has time to repair it or call the technician to service it. Then he changes the filters and nozzles so they are clean and efficient, before turning off the system until we need it. Speaking of colder weather and freezing temperatures, it is important to make sure your pipes do not freeze, causing expensive water damage. (Montauk Sun)
