Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski announced that on Wednesday night, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the East Ramapo School District Lottery “Spin up” bill, which will advance lottery aid to the East Ramapo School District.
The school district requested the $3.5 million in aid in order to save programs for students. The legislation requires oversight on how the money is spent to ensure the funds go directly to educational programs.
The accelerated lottery funds will go directly to the school district and be deducted from future lottery allocations over a 30-year period. During those three decades, the district will have to follow strict regulations and report its spending on a regular basis to the New York State Department of Education through an appointed advisory team.

The advisory team will consist of the East Ramapo superintendent of schools or his or her designee, a member of the school board, a teacher employed in the district, an administrator employed in the district and a parent of a student.
Over the past two years the East Ramapo Central School District has reduced its workforce by about 400 or 25 percent and cutback or eliminated educational programs.
