FM Global Gifts Money For Town Fire Inspection Cameras

The grant money will be used to buy two digital cameras and accessories that will be used by Town of Clarkstown Fire Inspectors when performing fire investigations and determining the cause of a fire.

 

With tight financial budgets, every little bit counts for municipalities. Fortunately, Clarkstown was on the receiving end of FM Globals’ generosity.

Clarkstown Supervisor Alexander J. Gromack and Clarkstown Fire Inspectors accepted a grant award Tuesday of $1,197 from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers.

The grant award will be utilized to purchase two digital cameras and accessories that will be used by Town of Clarkstown Fire Inspectors when performing fire investigations and determining the cause of a fire.

“The grant will help the Fire Inspector’s office to more efficiently investigate the cause of a fire, while documenting through photos”, stated Vincent Narciso of the Town of Clarkstown Fire Inspectors office.

Harold Straut, Assistant Fire Safety Inspector, was the one who applied for teh grant.

“We give out about 300 of these (checks) a year all over the world,” said FM Global Senior Account Engineer John Antola.

Back in 2011, to the Nanuet Fire Department. That money was used to buy laptops will assist firefighters with pre-fire planning to efficiently collect and track data related to local community buildings. With this information, the firefighters will be able to help the fire department respond in an emergency situation.

“The Town is always looking at grant opportunities in an effort to offset the cost to the taxpayers and we are grateful to FM Global for this grant award,” said Gromack.

During the past 35 years, FM Global has awarded millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the globe.  Locally, the company has awarded grants to a number of New York based organizations.

“Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent organizations from purchasing necessary equipment and with added financial support from FM Global, they are provided with that opportunity”, said Michael Spaziani, manager of the Fire Prevention Grant Program.    

FM Global representative John Antola presented the grant award to the Town of Clarkstown today at Town Hall.
