RCC Appoints New Dean of Student Development

Rockland Community College has appointed James S. Siegel, who was an assistant dean at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J., as of dean of student development.

Siegel is responsible for coordinating services that help students achieve their educational and career goals, and promoting student retention, according to RCC. He has direct supervision of the Counseling Center, Academic Intervention, Advising, Career Services and the Prevention Resource Center.

Siegel of Jackson, N.J., most recently served as assistant dean for student success at Georgian Court, where he oversaw the Student Success division, which included advising, tutoring, disability services, and minority academic support programs.  While at Georgian Court, Siegel's leadership and expertise in the area of student retention led to the university becoming one of two colleges in the nation to receive the 2010 National Excellence in Retention Award from Noel-Levitz.

Siegel's prior experience includes coordinating academic advising programs at the University of Arizona and working in the social services field as both a crisis counselor and prevention educator.

Siegel has a Ph.D. in Higher Education and a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
