Tragedy Takes 44-Year-Old's Life After He's Hit By His Own Food Truck
The Clarkstown Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
NANUET, NY — An Albany man died in a tragic accident in which he was run over by his own food truck.
Clarkstown police say that on Thursday, around 3:05 p.m., officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Prospect Street and South Lexow Avenue in Nanuet.
Investigators say the driver of a 1994 Grumman food truck, a 44-year-old man, was traveling west on Prospect Street when the truck stalled. He put the truck in park and got out of the vehicle. The driver then asked his friend, a 39-year-old man, who had been following him in another vehicle, to help him with backing the truck onto a side street.

The friend entered the truck, placed it into neutral, and the truck began rolling back. The original driver of the vehicle, who has since been identified as Khurram Shahzad, of Albany, positioned himself behind the truck to help direct his friend. Police say the truck's brakes failed, and the vehicle struck Shahzad.
The friend who was operating the truck remained on scene.
