NANUET — Christmastime events including visits and pictures with Santa are treasured traditions for many Clarkstown families. Around Rockland County, kids have several chances for seasonal fun.

Ongoing

Santa at the Palisades Center. From now to Dec. 24, guests to the mall in West Nyack can create lasting memories with Santa, preserving the holiday spirit in cherished photos. Reservations are encouraged and can be made at WhereIsSanta.com. Walk-up visits will also be accommodated based on availability. Santa at Macy's. In New York City, Santa will be at Macy's Herald Square through Dec. 24. Reservations are required. Book yours here.

Candy Cane Hunt and Tree Lighting. 5:30 p.m. (Rain Date: Dec. 4) at Congers Station Park, Burnside Avenue, Congers. Clarkstown officials say Santa will hide hundreds of candy canes around Congers Station Park. Grab your flashlights and bag and join the search for hidden candy canes. Enjoy cookies and hot cocoa after the hunt.

Dec. 2

Nanuet Annual Tree Lighting. 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2, West Orchard Street (across from Nanuet Post office). The Nanuet Senior High School's Junior Chamber of Commerce is planning a great event in coordination with the Nanuet Chamber of Commerce and the Nanuet Civic Association. Fun, food, activities — and Santa will arrive before the tree-lighting. Please bring a new unwrapped toy for Toys For Tots. Toys will be collected by X-treme 4Low Jeep Club.

Dec. 3

Santa Cares. 10:30-11:30 a.m. A sensory-friendly environment for children with special needs to enjoy their time with Santa at the Palisades Center.

Holiday Lights. Join the Nyack Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the season of family, friends and giving at 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at the gazebo on Main Street. Thanks to sponsors Kenneth Zatz Pediatrics, Nyack Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Breakfast & Burger Club, Prohibition River and the Village of Nyack.

Dec. 5

Pet Party with Santa. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 5-7 p.m., pets are welcome to join in the holiday fun and pose for adorable photos with Santa at the Palisades Center.

Dec. 10

32nd Annual Santa Claus 5K Run. It's not a Santa-specific event but it sure is fun. 10:30 a.m. in Veterans Memorial Park sponsored by the Orangetown Recreation Department. Pre-Registration fee $25 by noon Dec. 8. Race day registration $30 begins at 8:15 a.m. Each registrant will receive an official race winter hat.
