Alternate Side Parking Returns In Full Force For NYC Drivers
"Bring the pandemic back," tweeted one New Yorker as the city reinstated rules that require drivers to move their vehicles twice a week.
NEW YORK CITY — Brace yourselves, New York City drivers — alternate side parking is back in full force starting Tuesday.
Car owners who grew used to alternate-side parking rules only being enforced once-a-week during the COVID-19 pandemic will now have to move their vehicles twice a week.
And the twice-weekly inconvenience’s return isn’t exactly being greeted with open arms.

“Alternate side parking being back is terrible. Bring the pandemic back,” tweeted @Cainhugh_.
City sanitation officials have touted the move as part of an $11 million investment in cleaning that will help bring streets back their full cleanliness.

Alternate side parking’ s return will double the amount of litter taken off the city’s streets, said sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch on NY1. A single mechanical broom can take 1,500 pounds of litter off roadways, she said.
“We saw during the pandemic the city got noticeably dirtier when the city pulled back on alternate side parking,” she said.
“We’re not doing it because it’s fun, we’re doing it because it works.”
