Construction Crew Breaks Brooklyn Gas Line, Prompts Evacuations: FDNY
A gas main break in Red Hook is under control after firefighters cleared three buildings Wednesday morning as a precaution, officials said.

NEW YORK CITY — Three Red Hook buildings were evacuated after construction crews struck a high-pressure gas line, FDNY officials said.
The gas main break occurred about 7:30 a.m. near Beard and Richards streets, authorities said.
FDNY crews responded and evacuated 110 Beard St., 59 Van Dyke St. and 270 Richards St. out of precaution, officials said.

No one was injured in the incident, officials said.
The situation was deemed under control by 9:30 a.m.

A National Grid spokesperson told Patch that a third-party contractor not working for the utility had damaged underground infrastructure in front of 270 Richards St.
Crews are making repairs, the spokesperson said, noting customers' service wasn't impacted.
