David O'Connor, Madison Square Garden CEO, Steps Down

O'Connor led the company behind the nation's most famous arena for two years.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — David O'Connor stepped down Monday from his post as CEO of the Madison Square Garden Company, the company said in a statement. O'Connor left the firm that runs the eponymous Midtown arena after just over two years.

James Dolan, the company's executive chairman, has replaced O'Connor as interim CEO "effective immediately," the statement said.

O'Connor started as the Madison Square Garden Company's chief executive in June 2015 and helped separate it from its predecessor, which is now known as MSG Networks Inc.

An MSG spokesman declined to comment on the reasons for O'Connor's departure.

O'Connor previously spent moroe than 30 years at the Creative Artists Agency, a top Hollywood talent agency.

In addition to Madison Square Garden, the company owns Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon Theater on the Upper West Side and other venues in Chicago, Boston and California. It also owns and runs the New York Knicks, New York Rangers and New York Liberty sports teams.
