MANHATTAN, NY — Here are the most interesting things for you to do in Manhattan this weekend, plus one Brooklyn pit stop that we just had to include.


Frieze New York

When: Friday, May 4 - Sunday, May 6

Where: Randall's Island

What: Artist and galleries from all around the world are descending on Randall's Island this weekend for the seventh Frieze New York art fair. After two days of previews, the fair opened to the public Friday, May 4 and will run through the evening of Sunday, May 6. This year's Frieze art fair will feature more than 190 galleries from 30 countries, organizers said in a press release.

In, Of, and Crossing Essex

When: April 27 - June 10

Where: 120 Essex St., Lower East Side

What: A new exhibit opens Friday tracking the history of the storied Essex Street Market before it relocates to the Essex Crossing development later this year. Visitors to the current market will see installations from three artists that will "explore the public and private histories of the Market through the stories, perspectives, and lived experiences of the people who work and shop there every day," according to the even description. New York City Cannabis Parade

When: Saturday, May 5 at 11:00AM

Where: West 32nd Street and Broadway

What: Supporters of the legalization of Marijuana will march down Broadway on Saturday. The parade will kick off with a rally at 11 a.m. including speakers such as politicians, advocates and people in the marijuana business. The rally will also feature entertainers such as Immortal Technique, Chief Rocker Busy Bee and Lord Digga Da Highsmen.


"1978: The NYC Parks/New York Times Photo Project"

When: May 3 - June 14

Where: Central Park Arsenal Gallery (Fifth Avenue and East 64th Street)

What: Visit Central Park's Arsenal Gallery for a blast from the past this summer. The gallery's newest exhibit — which launched Thursday, May 3 — features 65 photos taken by New York Times photographers in city parks between August and November of 1978.
