Man Steals Nearly $9K From Manhattan, Queens Bank Accounts: NYPD

The alleged thief let his victims keep their debit cards.

NEW YORK, NY — The NYPD is looking for a man who allegedly stole nearly $9,000 from five different bank accounts this spring. The thief used Manhattan and Queens residents' bank account information to withdraw their money on five occasions in April and May, police said.

All the victims had their debit cards with them when the man drained their accounts, police said.

The theft spree started small on April 13, when he took $80 from a 53-year-old man's account in southeast Queens' 105th Precinct, police said. He then stole $5,453 from 62-year-old man's account in the same area on April 19, the NYPD said.

On May 20, the thief took $1,400 from a 23-year-old man's account in central Queens' 102nd Precinct and $500 from a 19-year-old woman's account in Long Island City's 108th Precinct, police said.

Two days later, the man allegedly took $1,556 from a 59-year-old man's account in Greenwich Village's 6th Precinct, police said.

The thief is a white man between ages 25 and 45 who was last seen wearing dark-rimmed glasses, a black hat and a black coat, police said. Anyone with information about the crime can call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or 1-888-57-PISTA for Spanish.
