Bill De Blasio Can't Bring Himself To Root For Yankees: Report
He hasn't abandoned his Red Sox roots.

NEW YORK CITY — He may be New York's mayor, but Boston still claims his heart — at least when it comes to baseball. Bill de Blasio just can't bring himself to root for the Yankees as they make a run for the World Series this year, he told the New York Daily News editorial board in a sit-down interview.
"I am a crazed, rabid baseball fan and Red Sox fan," de Blasio told the paper. "It is constitutionally impossible to quote unquote root for the New York Yankees."
Raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, de Blasio has not been as excited as most New Yorkers in seeing the Yankees advance to the American League Championship Series. The mayor has held onto his loyalty to the Boston Red Sox, even refusing to don a Yankees cap and jacket gifted to him Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

But de Blasio conceded to the Daily News that the Bronx Bombers are a "dogged" team making an impressive postseason drive, led by star rookie Aaron Judge.

"I have a lot of respect for them," de Blasio told the paper. "It’s hard for a Red Sox fan to say it, but I honestly have a lot of respect for them."
And if the Yanks win the title this year? "They’ll get the key (to the city), they’ll get the parade, they’ll get the confetti. I will bow before them," he told the Daily News.
