MTA Weekend Subway Service Changes March 3-4
Heads up: The 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, F, J, L, M, N, R, S and W lines won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will likely screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, March 3, through early Monday morning, March 5 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.
Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 18 train lines will be running with modified service.

2/3 trains:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, March 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2/3 service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark Street Tunnel. This project is part of MTA's ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables.
- In Brooklyn, 4 service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av to replace the 3. Free shuttle buses will run from Crown Hts-Utica Av to New Lots Av. 5 service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the 2. 4 and 5 trains will run local in Brooklyn. Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations. As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St 4/5. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for N/Q/R trains for service to Manhattan.
- In Manhattan, downtown 2/3 trains will be rerouted. 2 trains will run between the Bronx and South Ferry, making local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry. 3 service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St. Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations. Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St 4/5 stations instead.
- A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry 1/2 and Bowling Green 4/5 Transfer between South Ferry 1/2 and R at South Ferry-Whitehall St. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for N/Q/R trains to Brooklyn.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, downtown 2/3 trains run local from 96 St to Times Sq-42 St due to track maintenance.
2/5 trains:

- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, 2 trains replace weekend 5 service between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St. 5 trains replace weekend 2 service between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel.
4 train:
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 3, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, Woodlawn-bound 4 trains skip, 161 St, 167 St, 170 St, Mt Eden Av, and 176 St due to track replacement. Use a Manhattan-bound 4 to complete your trip. Transfer at Burnside Av or 149 St-Grand Concourse.
- From 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3, and from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, 4 service operates every 16 minutes between 125 St and Woodlawn due to track replacement. The last stop for some trains headed toward Woodlawn will be 125 St. Transfer to a Woodlawn-bound 4 at 125 St to continue your trip.
5 train:
- From 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, Wakefield-241 St bound 5 trains skip Bronx Park East, Pelham Pkwy, Allerton Av and Burke Av due to track maintenance. Use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 5 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Gun Hill Rd or E 180 St.
4/6 trains:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, downtown 4/6 trains run express from Grand Central-42 St to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall due to track maintenance. Use an uptown 4 local or 6 to complete your trip. Transfer at Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, 14 St-Union Sq or Grand Central-42 St.
7 train:
- From 12:15 a.m. Saturday, March 3 to 4:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 7 service is suspended in both directions between Times Sq-42 St and Queensboro Plaza due to track replacement. 7 service will operate in two sections: between Main St and Queensboro Plaza, and between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards. Use the E/F/N or W for service between Manhattan and Queens. Transfer at Queensboro Plaza 7/N/W or 74 St-Roosevelt Av 7/E/F. Free shuttle buses will run between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av. As a reminder, W trains run days/evenings, and the 42 Street S Shuttle will run overnight.
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 3, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, Queensboro Plaza-bound 7 trains run express from Willets Point to 74 St-Broadway due to signal modernization. Use a Flushing-bound 7 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 74 St-Broadway, Junction Blvd, or Willets Point.
A train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3, to 5 a.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, A trains are suspended in both directions between 168 St and Inwood-207 St due to electrical maintenance. A trains will run between 168 St and Inwood-207 St, and 1 trains make nearby stops between 168 St and 207 St. Free shuttle buses will operate along two routes: on Broadway, between 168 St and 207 St, and on Fort Washington Av, between 168 St and 190 St. Transfer between trains and buses at 168 St.
A/C trains:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2 to 6 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, downtown A/C trains run express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to signal maintenance. Use an uptown A local, C or D to complete your trip. Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle or 125 St. As a reminder, C service does not operate overnight.
B train:
- Beginning 9 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2, B service will end early due to track and signal maintenance. Take the C/D and/or Q instead. As a reminder, B trains do not run on weekends.
C train:
- From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2, and from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3 and Sunday, Mar. 4, uptown C trains run express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to signal maintenance. Use an uptown D making local C stops. For service to Spring St, take the E instead via transfer at Canal St or W 4 St-Wash Sq. For other skipped stations, transfer to/from the uptown D at W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St/Port Authority, or 59 St-Columbus Circle.
D train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2 to 6 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, Norwood-205 St bound D trains run express in Brooklyn from 36 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due todrain cleaning as part of the Subway Action Plan. Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D/N or Bay Ridge-bound R to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or 36 St.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2 to 5 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, Norwood-205 St bound D trains are rerouted via the C local from W 4 St-Wash Sq to 145 St due tosignal maintenance. For service between W 4 St-Wash Sq and 47-50 Sts, use the F via transfer at W 4 St-Wash Sq. For 7 Av take, take the E instead via transfer at 42 St/Port Authority.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2 to 5 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, downtown D trains skip 155 St due to track maintenance. Use an uptown D train to complete your trip. Transfer at 145 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
F train:
- At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I due to station renewal work on the Culver Line . When finished, more than 27,000 daily customers will benefit from repaired staircases, fare control areas, walls, floors, platform girders, new platform windscreens, rubbing boards, tactile warning strips, improved lighting and artwork.
- For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-bound F train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F.
- For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F.
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2, to 7 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 3, F trains skip Roosevelt Island in both directions due to electrical improvements. Free shuttle buses operate between Roosevelt Island and Queens Plaza, stopping at 21 St-Queensbridge. Consider using the Roosevelt Island Tramway for service to/from Manhattan. As a reminder, the Tramway does not run operate between 3:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. on Saturday’s.
J train:
- At all times until summer 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound J trains skip 121 St due to station rehabilitation work. For service to this station, take the J to Sutphin Blvd and transfer to a Broad St-bound J. As a reminder, Broad St-bound J trains skip 121 St from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. on weekdays; take the Z instead. For service from this station, take the J to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
- At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound J trains skip 104 St due to station rehabilitation work. For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J. For service from this station use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from J service at nearby 111 St.
- From 3:45 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3, J trains are suspended in both directions between Essex St and Broad St due to electrical improvements. J service will operate between Delancey-Essex Sts and Broadway Junction. For service to/from Manhattan, take the A/C or L at Broadway Junction.
- From 3:30 a.m. March 3, to 10 p.m. Sunday, March 4, J trains are suspended in both directions between Broadway Junction and Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer due to track replacement. J service operates between Broad St and Broadway Junction. Free shuttle buses will make all J line station stops between Broadway Junction and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck. Transfer between trains and shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck E and/or Broadway Junction J.
L train:
- From 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, L trains will run every 20 minutes due to signal modernization.
M train:
- At all times until April 2018, M service is suspended in both directions between Myrtle Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs due to the Myrtle Viaduct Reconstruction project. M service will operate in two sections:
- Between Delancey-Essex St and Myrtle Av, and via the J to/from Broadway Junction, days/evenings.
- Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
- Free shuttle buses operate between Myrtle Av (Broadway) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
- From 6:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, M trains are suspended in both directions between Essex St and Broadway Junction due to track replacement. For service between Essex St and Broadway Junction, take the J instead.
N train:
- At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St.
- For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
- For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N.
- For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
N/R train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 2 to 5 a.m. Monday, Mar. 5, Manhattan-bound N trains run express from 59 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to drain cleaning as part of the Subway Action Plan. Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av D/N local or Bay Ridge-bound R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, 36 St or 59 St.
N/W trains:
- At all times until spring 2018, N/W trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. When this extensive overhaul is completed at the 30 Av and 36 Av stations, customers will benefit from improved features, such as enhanced signage for easier navigation, including digital, real-time train arrival information at subway entrances, glass and wire mesh platform windscreens, new security cameras and railings, artwork, new glass barriers and LED lighting throughout for increased light and transparency and a new staircase for exiting from the 30 Av Astoria-bound platform to the street-level intersection of 30th Avenue and Newtown Avenue. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations for NW service at Broadway, Astoria Blvd, and 39 Av, or go to the Steinway St or 36 St MR stations. Or, use the following convenient bus route(s):
- Q102 to open Astoria line stations, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7 or Queens Plaza E/M/R.
- Q18 to Northern Blvd M/R.
- Q66 to Steinway St M/R, Northern Blvd M/R, 21 St-Queensbridge F, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7, and Queens Plaza E/M/R.
- Q69 and Q100 Ltd to 21 St-Queensbridge F, Queens Plaza E/M/R, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7.
S train:
- From 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 3 to Monday, Mar. 5, the 42 St S shuttle will operate overnight in order to provide additional service due to track replacement work on the 7 line between Times Sq-42 St and Queensboro Plaza.
W train:
- From 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3 and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 4, special weekend service operates between Whitehall St and Ditmars Blvd, in order to provide additional service due to track replacement work on the 7 line between Times Sq-42 St and Queensboro Plaza.
