National School Walkouts In Manhattan: What You Need To Know

MANHATTAN, NY — Students at a number of Manhattan schools will join a nationwide protest to demand stricter gun control laws one month after Nikolas Cruz killed 17 students with an AR-15-style rifle in Parkland, Florida.

More than 40 Manhattan schools — including public, private and charter schools as well as some colleges and universities — will join 2,500 educational institutions for National School Walkout on Wednesday, March 14, at 10 a.m., according to organizers from the Women's March youth group EMPOWER.

Students and teacher protesters will march for 17 minutes — in honor of the 17 people shot to death at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — and show support for gun control laws that would ban assault weapons, mandate background checks on gun sales and allow courts to disarm people who exhibit violent behavior, organizers said.
