NYC MetroCards Are Now Reselling For Up To $5K Online: See Here

After more than 30 years, New York commuters will now use a new contactless payment system called OMNY.​

NEW YORK CITY — MetroCards may be a thing of the past when taking mass transit in New York City, but some plastic cards are finding new life on reselling sites — with some selling for as much as $5,000.

After more than 30 years, New York commuters will now use a new contactless payment system called OMNY.

MetroCards, that have since been discontinued on Dec. 31, 2025, are now selling on resell sites like eBay from anywhere between $6 and $5,000.

The majority of listings are for the familiar bright yellow and blue MetroCard. Though notable listings include a set of MetroCards from 1994, an expired green Student pass, a Notorious B.I.G. card, among others.

Those interested in the $5,000 listing will be able to get their hands on an expired MetroCard from 2020, in great condition, according to eBay.

Similarly, New York subway tokens, that were phased out in 2003, are not reselling as well as MetroCards. Current eBay listings are from anywhere between $10 and $50.
