NYC Subway Delays: Mechanical Problems Stall Several Lines
The 2, 3, 4, 5, E, F and M lines all experienced delays during Friday's morning rush hour.

NEW YORK, NY — Trains with mechanical problems brought delays to a handful of New York City subway lines during Friday morning's commute.
Around 7:30 a.m. a train with mechanical problems at 96th Street forced southbound 2 trains to run along the 5 line from the Bronx to lower Manhattan. The service change brought delays to the 2, 3, 4 and 5 lines, according to MTA officials.
Mechanical problems struck again at 96th Street around 8:45, forcing the MTA to re-implement the service changes. Normal service returned to the 2 and 3 lines by 8:50, according to the MTA.

Trains on the E, F and M lines were also bogged down by delays Friday morning, the MTA said. Shortly before 9 a.m., a train with mechanical problems at Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street caused delays on southbound E trains and Brooklyn-bound M trains, the MTA said.
Passengers on the train at Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street needed to be evacuated due to smoke, according to posts on social media.

"Nothing like a good old fashion train fire. I was in my train car and it sounded like we hit something between stations. Then the next stop it's all smoke," one passenger said on Twitter as they filmed riders evacuating the station.
