NYC Subway Delays: Signal Problems Abound, Bronx Riders Stranded

Signal problems struck several New York City subway lines Wednesday morning. A train with mechanical problems also stranded Bronx riders.

NEW YORK, NY — New York City's subway riders ran into a number of problems getting to work during a rainy Wednesday morning commute.

Signal problems stalled several subway lines all throughout the city and a train with mechanical problems stranded commuters in the Bronx for hours, the MTA said.

Passengers on the 2 and 5 lines found themselves without a way to get to Manhattan via the subway on Wednesday morning. A train with mechanical problems was reported at the West Farms Square-East Tremont Avenue station shortly before 6:30 a.m. Around 6:45 a.m. the MTA announced that 2 trains were being suspended between Wakefield-241 St and 3 Avenue-149th Street and that 5 trains were being suspended between Eastchester-Dyre Avenue and 3 Avenue-149th Street.

MTA workers were still attempting to fix a "rail condition" at West Farms Square-East Tremont Avenue by 8:30 a.m. Shuttle buses were called into action to take 2 and 5 passengers along their normal routes up to East 180th Street. From East 180th Street, shuttle buses supplemented the Bx4 and Bx19 buses to the 3 Avenue-149th Street station.

Southbound 2 and 5 service from East 180th Street to 3 Avenue-149th Street was restored around 9:10 a.m., MTA officials said.
