NYC Transit Delays: Storm Still Hurting Commuter Rail, Buses

It's going to be tough getting in, out and around the city Thursday as effects from the winter storm linger.

NEW YORK, NY — Commuters who had a tough time getting out of New York City during Wednesday's storm are likely to have just as much trouble coming back in on Thursday morning. Inclement weather effects are still causing delays on many commuter rail and bus options, and city buses aren't faring well either, according to the various transit agencies that service the city.

The Metro North Railroad was probably hit the hardest Wednesday. Many of the train's lines heading out to Connecticut and up the Hudson River were suspended Wednesday due to debris falling onto the tracks, signal problems and other weather-related issues. On Thursday, MetroNorth customers should "expect crowded conditions and delays due to the residual effects of the storm," the MTA said in a press release.

NJ Transit also experienced its fair share of issues Wednesday that are carrying over. Bus service has resumed, but passengers are told to plan for delays due to weather conditions and detours, according to the transit agency. Rail lines will run on a normal weekday schedule, but the Raritan Valley, Atlantic City, Main/Bergen County, Port Jervis, Morristown, Gladstone Branch and Montclair Boonton will be facing difficulties and delays due to being "heavily impacted by the storm."

All NJ Transit tickets will be honored on any of the agency's bus or rail lines. PATH trains and NY Waterways will also honor the tickets.

Getting around the city Thursday won't be as hard as commuting in from the suburbs. The subways are running on a normal schedule, but bus passengers can expect delays and detours due to poor driving conditions on city roads, according to the MTA service advisory.
