NYC Weather: 93-Degree Heat Headed To City Before July 4 Weekend

NEW YORK CITY — A sweltering wave of heat is poised to bear down on New York City, forecasters warn.
High temperatures Friday are expected to hit 93 degrees, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.
And high humidity could make it seem even hotter — AccuWeather reported that the temperature will feel more like 100 degrees.

"There will be a buildup of hot and more humid air in the East late this week, since a high pressure system is expected to begin to drift offshore," said Carl Babinski, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather, in a report by the site.
Thursday's highs won't be quite as blistering, but at 83 degrees they'll still make New Yorkers sweat and seek air conditioning.

So, is there relief in sight for the July 4 weekend? Yes and no.
Rain, specifically a chance of thunderstorms, will enter the forecast late Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Saturday's high will be 86 degrees, but that heat likely will be tempered by an 80 percent chance of rain, the forecast states. A hazardous weather outlook is in effect starting that day, according to the National Weather Service.
"A cold front will bring strong to severe thunderstorms to the area
on Saturday," the outlook states.
Showers and thunderstorms could persist late Saturday and into Sunday, the forecast states.
July 4 itself looks to be sunny, with highs of 85 degrees, according to the forecast.
