NYC Weather: Severe Thunderstorms Could Hit Near City This Week
Even if severe thunderstorms don't hit the city Tuesday, get ready for a wave of high humidity, forecasters warn.
NEW YORK CITY — Thunderstorms, heat and high humidity could all hit New York City this week, meteorologists warn.
A chance of storms will enter the forecast Tuesday afternoon and into the evening, which carries a 60 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologists warn that areas just outside the city in southeast New York and northeast New Jersey could see severe thunderstorms.

"There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms with the main threat being damaging winds," a hazardous weather outlook states.
Even if storms don't hit the city, New Yorkers can expect something else Tuesday: high humidity.

A blanket of thick, moist air likely will make temperatures feel even more sweltering, according to AccuWeather. Highs are predicted to be in the mid-80s, but will feel like they're in the 90s, the report states.
"For the majority of the Northeast, Tuesday will be the most uncomfortable day of the week as humidity levels peak," the AccuWeather report states.
Highs will reach 91 degrees on Wednesday and stay just a few degrees shy of that mark all this week, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.
