NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Nov. 24-28

Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, M, N, Q, R, S​ and W trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Nov. 23, through early Monday morning, Nov. 26— in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a staggering 21 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

  • At all times until winter 2018-19, downtown trains skip 238 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, take the Bx9 to 231 St, or take an uptown train to 242 St and transfer to a downtown 1.

1/2 trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov 26, uptown trains skip 50 St, 59 St, and 66 St due to track maintenance near Times Square-42 St. As an alternative, use a downtown 1 or 2 local to complete your trip. Transfer at 72 St or Times Square-42 St.
  • From 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, downtown trains skip 86 St and 79 St due to station improvements at 96 St. As an alternative, use an uptown 1 or 2 local to complete your trip. Transfer at 72 St or 96 St.

3 train:

  • At all times until November 2018, 3 trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. During this closure, 3 trains will run between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the 1 to 137 St, the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2/3 trains at 96 St and between 2 trains at 135 St.

4 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov 26, Manhattan-bound trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a Woodlawn-bound 4 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 125 St or 149 St- Grand Concourse.
  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 4 service will operate in two sections: between Woodlawn and 125 St, and between 125 St and Crown Hts-Utica Av/New Lots Av due to track replacement between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 125 St. Transfer at 125 St to continue your trip.
  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, uptown trains will run local from Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall to 125 St due to track replacement between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 125 St. Downtown trains will run local from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St, and from 14 St-Union Sq to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. 4 trains will run every 12 minutes between Woodlawn and 125 St, days/evenings.

5 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2/4 trains replace 5 service between Bowling Green and E 180 St due to track replacement between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 125 St. 5 trains will run between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St all weekend. For service between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the 2. For service between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, take the 4. Transfer between 2 and 5 trains at E 180 St, and/or between 2 and 4 trains at 149 St-Grand Concourse.

4/6 trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, 4/6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Avenue South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St N/R station on Broadway.   • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, downtown trains skip 33 St and 23 St due to station enhancements at 28 St. As an alternative, use an uptown 4 local or 6 to complete your trip. Transfer at 14 St-Union Sq or Grand central-42 St. As a reminder, the 28 St station is closed in both directions for renovations until December 2018.

7 train:

  • MTA New York City Transit is performing ongoing critical work to upgrade the 7 line with Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling. Once installed on the line by the end of this year, CBTC will allow for more frequent and more reliable service for all users of the 7 line, which currently serves approximately 500,000 customers per weekday between Queens and Manhattan.
    • From 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, to 4:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, free shuttle buses and E/F/N/W/S replace 7 trains between 34 St-Hudson Yards and Queensboro Plaza.
    • 7 trains will run between Main St and Queensboro Plaza. 7 trains will not run in Manhattan or Long Island City. Use E/F/N or W trains for service between Manhattan and Queens. Transfer at Queensboro Plaza or 74 St-Roosevelt Av.
    • Free Shuttle buses will run frequently – every five minutes during times of peak ridership – in two sections: In Manhattan between Times Square-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards, and in Queens between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
    • Additional train service is being scheduled on the S and W to further help customers. The 42 St S Shuttle will operate overnight (it normally does not), from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday to Monday, Nov. 24 to Nov. 26, and W trains run from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, between Whitehall St and Ditmars Blvd (the W does not normally run on weekends).

A/C trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, uptown trains run local from W 4 St-Wash Sq to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to track replacement. Manhattan-bound trains are rerouted via the F line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq. For High St, use the nearby York St F station. For Fulton St, take the 6 to nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and transfer at Bleecker St/B’way-Lafayette St. For Chambers St, Canal St, and Spring St, transfer to a downtown A local, C, E or F at W 4 St-Wash Sq. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.

B train:

  • From 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, B service will end early due to track maintenance near W 4 St-Wash Sq. As an alternative, take the C/D and/or Q. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends.

B/D trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, B and D trains will skip 174-175 Sts in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Tremont Av or 170 St B/D stations. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to B or D trains at Tremont Av or 170 St with a MetroCard. For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at the Tremont Av or 170 St stations for a transfer to the bus.
  • At all times until Jan. 2019, B/D trains will skip 167 St in both directions MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby stations at 170 St B/D, 167 St 4, or 161 St-Yankee Stadium 4/B/D. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to the subway at 170 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium with a MetroCard. Use the Bx35 along E 167 St and transfer to the 4 at 167 St station with a MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. D train:

  • From 5:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 25, Manhattan-bound trains skip 25 Av, 20 Av, 18 Av, 79 St, and 71 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D train to complete your trip. Transfer at 62 St-New Utrecht Av, Bay Pkwy, or Bay 50 St.

D/N trains:

  • From 10:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to Monday, Nov. 26, Manhattan-bound D trains run express from 36 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to track maintenance at 9 St. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D/N local or Bay Ridge-bound R to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or 36 St.

E train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, free shuttle buses replace trains between Briarwood and Jamaica Center due to track maintenance. E trains will run between World Trade Center and Briarwood, and via the F to/from 179 St. Free shuttle buses will make all E line station stops between Union Tpke and Jamaica Center. For service between Manhattan and JFK Airport, take the A to/from Howard Beach-JFK Airport.

F train:

  • At all times until December 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av, 5 Av/59 St, 7 Av, 5 Av/53 St or 47-50 Sts. Local buses are also available along Fifth Avenue, Sixth Avenue and 57th Street.   • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, free shuttle buses replace trains between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av due to track maintenance. F trains will run between 179 St and Church Av. Free shuttle buses will make all line station stops between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Transfer between trains and shuttle buses at Church Av. For service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Stillwell Av, take the D/N or Q.
  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains are rerouted via the E line after 36 St to 47-50 St due to track maintenance near W 4 St-Wash Sq. As an alternative. use a Jamaica-bound F train to complete your trip via transfer at 47-50 Sts or Roosevelt Av. For Lexington Av/63 St, take the Q or a Jamaica-bound F. Transfer at 47-50 Sts.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, downtown trains skip 14 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a 179 St-bound F train to complete your trip. Transfer at W 4 St-Wash Sq or 34 St-Herald Sq.

F/G trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 179 St-bound F and Court Sq-bound G trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, 15 St-Prospect Park, and 4 Av-9 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Church Av-bound F or G train to complete your trip. Transfer at Smith-9 Sts, 7 Av, or Church Av.

F/M trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, trains will skip 23 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 23 St station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940. Crews are making extensive repairs to fix structural defects and deterioration, and include functional station improvements, leading to an enhanced customer experience for approximately 31,000 daily riders who use the station. For alternate service, use the nearby 34 St-Herald Sq or 14 St stations along Sixth Avenue. Or, use the nearby 23 St R/W station on Broadway. J train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov 23. to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, free shuttle buses and/or 46F replace J trains between Hewes St and Broad St due to structural improvements.

M train:

  • Beginning 8:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, M service will end early between 71 Av and Delancey Essex-Sts due to structural improvements along the J/M/Z lines.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov 23. to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, free shuttle buses and/or J trains replace M service between Delancey-Essex Sts and Metropolitan Av due to structural improvements. M trains will not run this weekend. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service operating on two routes: between Essex St and Hewes St, where J trains are available to Jamaica Center, and between Essex St and Metropolitan Av. For Manhattan, consider taking the L from Myrtle-Wycoff Avs.

N train:

  • At all times until Spring 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on theSea Beach Line. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D instead. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St.
  • At all times until July 2019, trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
  • At all times until February 2019, trains will skip Broadway and 39 Avin both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30 Av, 36 Av, or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus. For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here.

Q train:

  • From 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov 24 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, Manhattan-bound trains run express from Kings Hwy to Prospect Park due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-bound Q to complete your trip. Transfer at Prospect Park, Church Av, Newkirk Plaza, or Kings Hwy.
  • From 4:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov 24 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Avenue U and Neck Rd due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound Q train to complete your trip. Transfer at Sheepshead Bay or Kings Hwy.

R train:

  • From 10:45 p.m. Friday, Nov 23. to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, Manhattan-bound trains run express from 36 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D/N local or Bay Ridge-bound R to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or 36 St. As a reminder N trains will not stop at 45 St and 53 St in both directions until July 2019.

S train:

  • From 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday to Monday, Nov. 24 to Nov. 26, the 42 St S Shuttle will operate overnight to provide alternate service due to signal modernization on the Flushing Line.

W train:

  • From 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, special weekend service will run between Whitehall St and Ditmars Blvd to provide additional service due to signal modernization on the Flushing Line.
