Heat Wave Could Be NYC's Longest In A Decade, Forecasters Say
It's going to be so hot this weekend that organizers decided to halve the NYC Triathlon.

NEW YORK CITY — New York City's oven-like heat wave will be the longest in nearly a decade, according to the forecast and weather records.
Highs on Sunday will hit 97 degrees with a 104-degree heat index, making it the seventh-consecutive day of 90-degree heat, according to the National Weather Service. The city hasn't seen a seven-day heat wave since 2013, records show.
The day is predicted to be so hot that NYC Triathlon organizers decided to halve the length of the epic race.

A heat advisory will remain in effect until Sunday at 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The "dangerous" heat, as Gov. Kathy Hochul put it, has put a strain on New Yorkers and the city's electrical grid.
Thousands of New Yorkers experienced blackouts Thursday, most in The Bronx and parts of Queens, according to Consolidated Edison's outage map.
Con Ed and city officials have encouraged New Yorkers to limit their energy use, if possible, to avoid putting even more strain on the power system.
Cooling centers are open across the city for New Yorkers without air conditioning.
The heat wave looks to break, at least on paper, Monday.
A heat wave, as defined by the National Weather Service, is three or more days of 90-degree or more temperatures — and Monday's high is expected to be 89 degrees, according to the forecast.
