NEW YORK CITY — Staten Islanders got an unplanned — and potentially dangerous — July 4 fireworks show one day early when a barge carrying pyrotechnics burst into flames, FDNY officials said.

Photographs from the Sunday evening barge blaze posted on the FDNY’s Instagram show fireworks shooting up from the inferno.

The situation was “very hazardous” for both firefighters and onlookers, officials said.
