2 Herricks Students Named Siemens Regional Finalists

Six Herricks students​ were were named semifinalists earlier this week.

Eleven Long Island students, including two from Herricks Public Schools, are among 101 students nationwide who were announced on Wednesday as regional finalists for the 2017 Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology.

These regional finalists were chosen out of the 491 semifinalists who were announced on Tuesday. There were six Herricks students who were were named semifinalists. Overall, 56 Long Island high school students were recognized.

All regional finalists receive at least $1,000 in scholarship money. Those who place first, in both individual and team regional competitions, will win $3,000 and $6,000, respectively.

The regional finalists will compete in one of six regional competitions that will be hosted in November. Winners of the regional events will then advance to the National Finals in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 4 to 5, where $500,000 in scholarships will be awarded.

There will be two top prizes (individual and team winners) of $100,000. Second place winners will receive $50,000 and all other finalists will receive $25,000.
