A senior at Herricks High School is a winner of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A New Hyde Park senior has been selected as a winner of the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship.

Shreya Patel, a senior at Herricks High School, was announced as a winner by the district this week. She was recognized as National Merit Semifinalist and Finalist in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program earlier this school year after meeting high academic standards and completing other rigorous requirements.

Scholarship award recipients were chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments. They represent those in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Shreya is an AP Scholar, as well as vice president of Amnesty International and member of the Herricks Helping Hands board. She plans to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in their BS/MD program.
