9 Beaches Ordered Closed 'Until Further Notice' In Wake Of Powerful Storm System, Torrential Rains

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — The Sound Shore avoided the worst of the flooding, but the effects of a powerful storm system that hit the Hudson Valley are still being felt at the seaside.
Health officials have closed a handful of Long Island Sound beaches after severe storms and torrential rains moved through the region.
The Westchester County Health Department has closed the beaches preemptively for Tuesday because of 3.38 inches of rainfall over the past 24 hours.

In New Rochelle, Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Beach Club, Greentree Country Club and the Surf Club on the Sound are closed.
In Mamaroneck, Harbor Island Park, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club and the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club have been closed to swimmers.
