FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW ROCHELLE CARES CEASING OPERATIONS AT THE END OF THE YEAR
New Rochelle Cares is deeply saddened to announce that we will no longer operate after the end of 2025. We are a not-for-profit, volunteer run aging-in-place organization that has provided transportation services and socialization opportunities for New Rochelle residents sixty and over for the past ten years. These services have enabled our members to remain in their own homes and have the support they need to get to necessary appointments and avoid isolation.
Since our establishment in 2015, we have served ninety individuals who have joined us. We have provided 3,934 rides, covering 25,497 miles driven over 2550 hours. These rides were primarily to medically related appointments, but were also trips for grocery shopping, to the beauty parlor or barber shop, and to various programs, including monthly luncheons in area restaurants.
Recently, people wishing to join have been turned away because there are not enough drivers to be able to provide the benefits of membership they are seeking. Additionally, after ten years, the current leadership plans to step down, and there is no one willing to replace them. As a result of the insufficient number of volunteer drivers, as well as the absence of anyone willing and able to replace those administering the group, the Board of Directors regrets that our organization cannot continue to operate and has voted to cease doing so after December 31.
We are incredibly grateful to all those who have donated to us over the years. Thank you for supporting our efforts. We are proud of all we have accomplished, and all of us, members, and volunteers, have been enriched by the enduring friendships we have made and found our participation in this group extremely rewarding.
