Is The 'Goochy Rain Dance Martini' The Answer To The Drought?
The enchanting cocktail at Red Horse might not be responsible for the much-needed showers, but it sure makes cloud-watching more fun.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Chef and restaurateur David Burke has been doing his part to help in the region's lingering drought, and helping to wet our whistles in the meantime.
Burke recently fielded a tongue-in-cheek solution to growing drought concerns with the introduction of the "Goochy Rain Dance Martini." And just to pay a little extra tribute to the rain gods, he has declared that the mystical cocktail will be offer at half-price any day it rains at White Plains' Red Horse by David Burke. (The offer also applies at eight other of his restaurants in the New York metro area).
This week offered the first chance in recent memory to take advantage of the offer. So now, the blend of Blanco tequila, Cointreau, lime juice and agave syrup cocktail is up for grabs from the opening of the bar at Red Horse Tavern until it closes, for $7.50 today through Sunday — after all, this is a cause for celebration.

Burke said extending the offer into the forecasted dry weekend is meant to encourage more precipitation.
Unfortunately, today's rain is only a drop in the drought bucket. Forecasters predict drought conditions could last a year or longer, since more than three months' worth of rain would be needed to bring precipitation back to normal.

Burke said the half-price offer on the Goochy Rain Dance Martini will remain valid until the drought is officially declared over.
But, why the Goochy Raindance Martini?
It turns out that Mickey Gooch, the owner of Casa Mexico Tequila, is a longtime friend of Burke's. The two were lamenting the lack of rain and the accompanying fire threat when the conversation turned to an age-old solution. Burke said he added the "y " to Gooch's name for alliteration's sake, and because Goochy (pronounced Gucci) sounds sexier than Gooch — and a legend was born.
