Impaired Driver Led Cops On Early Morning Route 22 Chase: NYSP

TOWN OF DOVER, NY — A brief police chase ended with the arrest of a Dutchess County man, according to state troopers.
New York State Police say that on Tuesday, around 2:11 a.m., troopers from the Dover barracks tried to stop a 2017 Buick SUV for traffic violations, in the Town of Dover.
After the driver ignored the emergency lights and sirens, a brief pursuit began, according to NYSP. The Buick eventually stopped in the parking lot of the Mobil gas station on Route 22, in Wingdale.

State police say that 44-year-old Eric P. Oakes, of Dover, was the only occupant of the car and showed signs of impairment.
He was arrested and taken to SP Dover for processing, where he refused evaluation by a drug recognition expert and declined to provide a blood sample to determine drug content, according to NYSP.

Oakes was charged with felony first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanor third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, misdemeanor driving while impaired by drugs, misdemeanor reckless driving, and several violations of vehicle/traffic laws.
He was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Dover Court on August 7.
