Man With BAC Over 3X Legal Limit Arrested In New Rochelle: Police

State police stopped the driver on I-95 in New Rochelle, and he was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — State police recently arrested a man in New Rochelle whose blood alcohol content was over three times the legal limit, police said.

Officers stopped Jesus M. Lopez Tapia, 52, of Greenwich, Connecticut, while he was driving on I-95 in New Rochelle on Friday, Feb. 25 at around 1:45 p.m.

Police said they stopped him for a "vehicle and traffic violation" and found him to be intoxicated.

After Lopez Tapia was arrested and processed, his blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.27 percent, state police said — over three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated — an unclassified misdemeanor — turned over to a sober third party, and released on an appearance ticket.

He is scheduled to appear in the City of New Rochelle Court on March 14 at 9:30 a.m.
