New Rochelle Will Host Affordable Housing Open House On Thursday

Organizers say the event will outline housing assistance programs, support renters on their way to homeownership and support homeowners.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The housing crisis is real, but in New Rochelle, there is support to help make home sweet home a reality.

The City of New Rochelle Department of Development will be holding an Affordable Housing Open House at City Hall on Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Organizers say the event will outline housing assistance programs to help transition into rental housing, support renters on their way to homeownership, and help homeowners in updating their properties for aging in place or resale.

"As the demand for affordable housing continues to grow, it is critical that we address the challenges that individuals and families face as they struggle to find quality, suitable places to call home," Development Commissioner Adam Salgado said. "This Open House offers the opportunity to meet with local organizations and housing advocates, learn about the City’s programs and resources, and find out about current and upcoming lotteries."

During the event, representatives from several affordable housing programs and nonprofit organizations will be present to answer questions and provide solutions to housing-related concerns:

  • The Bailey Initiative will discuss "The Power of Real Estate."
  • Westchester Residential Opportunities (WRO) will share home ownership concepts.
  • New York Power Authority will highlight their "Weatherization Workshop" and the benefits to homeowners.

There is currently an affordable housing lottery open for the 500 Main Street Apartments, a new building with impressive amenities in downtown New Rochelle. The development offers 119 affordable rental units, with monthly rents ranging from $1,366 to $1,978. The deadline for application submissions is October 21, at 4 p.m..
