Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Showers of HOPE Clothes Sorting

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Golf Ball Retrieval at Mohansic Golf Course
Volunteers will be walking the driving range and collecting golf balls to help sustain one of Westchester Parks Foundation's mission-based programs. This is a fun opportunity for small groups and teens as young as 14; children 12+ can participate if registering as part of an adult's team.
Date: 7/14 and 7/21; multiple opportunities - registration ends 24 hours prior to shift

Showers of HOPE Clothes Sorting
Showers of HOPE is a collaboration with Shiloh Baptist Church to provide mobile showers to members of the Westchester community who do not have access to shower facilities. HOPE Community Services is seeking volunteers to help sort the clothing that will be used for the upcoming Showers of HOPE event.
Date: 7/15-7/16 from 2-4 p.m.

Neighborhood Survey Volunteers
One Paso is looking for dedicated volunteers to help it better understand the needs and concerns of the local community. Volunteers will walk through the area surrounding the One Paso community center to engage in conversations with residents and complete short surveys. The information gathered will help One Paso expand and improve the services it offers—from wellness programs and support groups to youth initiatives and resource assistance. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in community engagement, grassroots work, or social services. All volunteers receive a T-shirt and can receive a community service letter upon request.

Grant Writers
Sunflower of Westchester is an emerging nonprofit—developed by former foster parents and foster youth—that is looking to create positive opportunities for kids and youth currently in and transitioning out of the foster care system. It is seeking volunteer grant writers with a passion for social impact to help it secure funding. Grant writers must be 25+.

Graphic Designers
Living Artist Society's Robeson in Peekskill Project is commemorates the 1949 Peekskill Riots and celebrates the enduring legacy of Paul Robeson. It is seeking a volunteer graphic designer to help develop impactful materials for its website, social media, and events with a unified visual identity and design.
