The historic home is located in the Residence Park neighborhood of New Rochelle, near Glen Island Park on the Long Island Sound. The city has co-named Meadow Lane "Lou Gehrig Way" in his honor.
Gehrig purchased the house as a Christmas gift for his parents in 1927, and lived with them there for a few years. While residing in the home, conveniently located just 14 miles from Yankee Stadium, he won two World Series titles. After getting married in 1933, he moved to an apartment nearby at 5 Circuit Road.

Gehrig played for 17 seasons with the Yankees, until 1939, when he had to retire due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which has since become synonymous with Lou Gehrig's disease. He died at age 37, just two years after being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. Gehrig's parents lost the house to foreclosure in 1937.
There have been several owners over the years since.
Recent property records show that in 2007, the house was sold for $600,000. It was sold again in 2016, "as is" for $399,999. The house was also sold in 2017 for $459,000 and in 2019 for $582,000.
Current owner Ali Credendino, who owns the property with her husband, described the restoration project to 6sqft as a "labor of love." She added, "We're very proud of the work we've done here. We completely restored all of the interior woodwork including the moldings, doors, and parquet floors, as well as the exterior custom cedar lap siding, which there are black and white photos of Lou Gehrig himself installing."
Credendino also told the NYC real estate website that they finished all floors and remodeled the kitchen and bathrooms with designs inspired by the period the home was originally built in, but updated for modern function. She recounted that the biggest project was replacing all the windows and doors for energy efficiency and security, while still staying true to the original time period.
The current owners also told Mansion Global that they uncovered two sets of original pocket doors that had been covered up at some point over the years. They also revealed to the global real estate website that when they first purchased the house, there was a claw foot tub in the basement where Gehrig supposedly washed his uniforms, which the owners since restored and relocated to the first floor bathroom as a functional show piece.
