Police deployed a department drone to monitor the incident location. Ara Araian, 46, of Passaic, NJ, was operating a vessel in the area and passenger Evan Ozdemir, 18, of Southold, alerted Araian to the submerged vessel, police said. Araian safely transferred the four who were in distress to his vessel and transported them to Duck Pond Point, where they were medically evaluated by the Cutchogue Fire Department, police said.

The four occupants, all males aged 30, 31, 50, and 54, are residents of Hampton Bays, police said.

Police interviewed the boat's operator, Jordan Miranda, 30, of Hampton Bays, who reported that his vessel quickly took on water over the transom before fully submerging and capsizing, authorities said.

Sea Tow responded to secure the vessel for towing to Mattituck Inlet, police said.
