GREENPORT, NY — A boat crashed into a jetty in Greenport recently, police said.
According to Southold Town police, the incident took place on June 8 at 9:25 p.m. off Bay Avenue. Two fishermen said that while heading back toward Port of Egypt, they hit the jetty going about 15 to 20 miles per hour. One man said he looked down at his fishing pole and shortly after crashed into the jetty, police said.
The Greenport Fire Department was requested for possible injuries, but both mariners refused medical attention; the vessel was located west of the jetty and towed it to the end of Bay Avenue to be secured for the evening, police said.
