Grenade Found By Man Cleaning North Fork Shed: Police

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A North Fork man cleaning his shed found a grenade on Sunday, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at 3:11 p.m. on Wunneweta Road in Cutchogue.

Police received a call from a homeowner at the location when he discovered the grenade, which was believed to have been left there by a previous homeowner, police said.

Responding officers located the grenade in a safe area of the rear yard, police said.

Believing that the grenade may be real, the Suffolk County Police Department's Emergency Services Unit was called for assistance and responded, police said.

Technicians determined that the grenade was safe, and the item was disposed of without further incident, police said.
