NORTH FORK, NY — A kayaker was saved by a good Samaritan in Orient Saturday morning, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at 10:30 a.m., on the Long Island Sound off Terry Lane. Spiros Roumandzas, 77, of Greenport, fell from his kayak and was unable to right himself, police said.
When officers arrived, Roumandzas had been picked up by good a Samaritan in a row boat, police said.

Roumandzas was transported safely to shore by the good Samaritan and refused medical treatment by the Orient Fire Department; Roumandzas was wearing the proper flotation equipment during the incident, police said.
No further action was taken, police said.
