Man, 87, Dies After Being Struck By Motorist In North Fork Crosswalk: Police
He died after being struck by an Orient driver, also 87, police say.

SOUTHOLD, NY — A Florida man, 87, died after being struck while trying to cross a Southold street Thursday afternoon, police said.
According to Southold Town police, the crash took place at 12:28 p.m. on New York State Route 25, in Southold Village. Southold Town Police and the Southold Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash.
Eleni Sakatos, 87, of Orient, was driving her vehicle westbound on State Route 25 and struck Henry Goetz, 87, of Sugarloaf Key, FL, a pedestrian attempting to cross State Route 25 in a clearly marked crosswalk, police said.

Goetz was treated at the scene and then transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk Police medevac; he was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
Sakatos was not injured, police said.

No charges were filed; the crash is being investigated by the Southold Police Department's detective division, police said.
