Police Chief Looking to Try Out Chevy Caprice

The Chevrolet Caprice is a new car police departments across the country are leaning toward to replace traditional Ford Crown Victoria models. AndChief Martin Flatley would like to give one a try.

The chief approached the on Tuesday with a plan to drive a new Caprice himself for six months before considering replacements for the rest of the fleet, he said.

“They are smaller than the Crown Victoria but that’s just something everyone has to get used to,” Flatley said, adding that the department has the $31,000 to spend on the 2013 model.

Earlier in the year, the police department taking advantage of purchasing a few more of the obsolete cars before switching over to a new fleet model. The Chevy Caprice, Impala and Tahoe police patrol models have all received rave reviews from online auto experts. But Councilman William Ruland cautioned against being too hasty in investing in the Chevy fleet.

“Ford is coming out with police package as well — we should consider all options,” he said.
