Clarkstown One of Best Places to Live in the USA: Money Magazine
West Nyack is cited as one of the great things about the town.
Clarkstown is ranked 7th in Money Magazine’s newest list of top places to live.
The list encompasses places with populations between 50,000 and 300,000, and considered 50 factors, from job growth, income increases, cost of living, housing affordability, school quality, arts and leisure options, to safety, health care, and diversity.
Clarkstown is in rarified company—only three cities in New York State got ranked—and the folks at Money don’t even care that it’s not a city!

“Clarkstown, making its top 10 debut this year, is a collection of eight hamlets less than 30 miles from New York City, each with a distinct personality,” the writers said. “... there’s West Nyack, where you can walk in the sculpture park or see a show at the Rockland Center for the Arts.”
And what’s one of its biggest advantages, they say? The commute—to New York City, northern New Jersey, Westchester County. They even mention the new bridge being built across the Hudson River (even though its actual landfall is next door in Nyack).

“We are so proud of this wonderful honor, especially to have made the top ten list of best places to live in the country” said Supervisor Alex Gromack. “Clarkstown has various recreational and social opportunities for children and families, excellent schools, economic opportunities, and a host of community and civic organizations that work to keep our Town one of the best places to live.”
He noted that Clarkstown is no stranger to the magazine’s researchers: it was ranked 35 out of 100 in 2012, 41 in 2010, and 71 in 2008.
“I am also proud of the cooperation that exists between our residents and our town government,” Gromack said. “By working together we have built a community where families flourish and where people and ideas come together in a constructive partnership.”
