CSX Train Strikes Car Hauler In Rockland County

Police said there were no injuries, but two cars that were being transported were damaged.

WEST NYACK, NY — A trailer hauling cars in Rockland County was struck by a CSX train Tuesday.

The Clarkstown Police Department said the incident happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. near Pineview Road in West Nyack.

Authorities said the first arriving officers saw two vehicles that had fallen from a car hauler that was resting against the side of CSX train car.

The car hauler, which was carryting two vehicles, had completely crossed over both sets of train tracks, police said.

The driver of the car hauler said he needed to back up his truck and then placed it in park. He said he didn’t realize that the trailer was across both sets of tracks.

A southbound CSX train struck the trailer causing both vehicles on the hauler to be dislodged.

Police said no injuries were reported, and the train did not experience any significant delays to its next destination.
