On Thursday, January 19, as part of Nyack Middle School’s continuing series of parent–student STAYING CONNECTED mini workshops, the topic of media influence on kids’ attitudes and beliefs will be the focus from 7:30-9:00PM in the school library.
A discussion led by experts in the field will examine the affects of popular culture and how the notion of underage substance abuse is glamorized and romanticized.
Discussion leaders will be DORNZELLA MILLIGAN (Facilitator and Prevention Specialist with the Rockland Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence), ALANA BOUTELLE (from Reality Check, the Rockland Department of Health) and DENISE HOGAN(Coordinator and Activist for POW’R Agaianst Tobacco, the American Lung Association.)
The evening has been planned by the Nyack Middle School Family Resource Center Coordinator, LISA RETALLACK in conjunction with the school’s PTA. The workshop will follow the PTA meeting a 7:00 PM.
