Nyack Library Director Mahoney to Retire This Fall
Trustees begin search for replacement
After nearly 25 years serving as the director of , James Mahoney has announced his plan to retire this coming November.
Mahoney has worked as the reading room's director since June of 1988, and oversaw the recent , which equipped the library with .
Mahoney announced his retirement at the July 23 board of trustees session.

Library trustees are currently working to hire a replacement.
"We have a search committee that's just starting to meet, and we hope to have an advertisement ready to put on the Internet at American Library Association and New York State Library Association websites," said Roger Seiler, the board's president.

Seiler has worked alongside the library since the 1980s, as well.
Patch has reached out to Mahoney and is awaiting comment.
While Mahoney will stay at his post full-time until the fall, Seiler said some changes are already in the works.
"When we opened the new expansion, Mr. Mahoney had instituted a new system for displaying the non-fiction books called the 'marketplace'," Seiler said.
While some residents lauded the change, . But now, the critics will see a respite.
"We are in the process of reconfiguring it more closely to what it was before," Seiler said. "It is not clear just yet what new configuration [will be like]." Seiler said the new director will work alongside trustees in the fall to implement another system.
This year's Nyack Library-Valley Cottage Library budget, , came in at about $3.2 million. According to website SeeThroughNY.com, Mahoney's salary was $102,883 in 2011.
