Nyack Marina's New Dock May Become A Reality
Village officials and the River Rowing Association are in talks about raising the final funds to construct an Eco-dock.
The congestion and crowding that sometimes plagues boaters at the Nyack Marina may soon become an antiquated problem.
The River Rowing Association (RRA)—a non-profit focused on bettering Nyack boating—met with the village Parks Commission last week to discuss the installation of the proposed new Eco-dock. The dock—which rises and falls with the tide—would significantly reduce the overcrowding that currently affects the marina.
The village initially received a state grant for $150,000 to construct the dock, and the Army Corps of Engineers approved the project. But the village was required to raise $50,000 of its own to complete the venture.

The RRA, which submitted the application for the dock last November, has helmed the fundraising initiative, securing nearly $35,000. In the Parks Commission meeting, members of the RRA asked the village for aid and submitted a proposal.
"At this time, we need the Village to allocate resources to make this project a reality," the proposal read. "We have been unable to ascertain the Village's commitment to satisfy the matching portion."

The RRA also noted further delays could result in loss of the grant and/or FEMA funds for repair.
The proposal highlighted the importance of the Eco-dock, noting it will reduce the safety problems of having human-powered boats and motorized boats using the same launching area.
