Drive, bike or walk into Piermont from any direction and you're likely greeted by a quaint, handmade welcome sign.
But as of this week, the village has one less.
The Piermont Police Department is investigating the theft of a Piermont Village sign reported stolen at 7:45 a.m. on Monday morning. The sign was located on Ferdon Avenue and is worth approximately $1,100.

"We've had kids steal signs before," said Piermont Police Chief Michael O'Shea. "But this one is valuable."
The abducted sign was hand-painted by an artist in Suffern; the perpetrators, if caught, will be charged with larceny.
