Unruly Jet Skiers in Piermont
Speeding jet skis are a danger to boaters in Sparkill Creek.
On August 11, the Piermont Police Department received calls about a speeding jet skier in Sparkill Creek—a problem that has become common.
"We have several marinas in Piermont, and the water is very heavily travelled," explained Michael O'Shea, Piermont's police chief.
Sparkill Creek is a total of eight miles long—and when jet skiers speed through the Piermont portion, it poses serious risks for manual boaters.

"The jet skis can be a real danger to kayakers and canoers," O'Shea said. "There are blind turns and narrow parts in the creek—it's hazardous."
"The vehicles don't have brakes," he added.

Since the Piermont Police Department lacks a marine unit, any calls regarding unruly and speeding jet skiers are handled by the county's Sheriff's Department.
