'Welcome to Nyack' Sign Damaged in Winter Storm Fixed
The oval centerpiece with a portrait of the Hudson River has been replaced on the Route 59 sign greeting visitors to Nyack.
Ever since some tough winter storms came to Nyack, the large green and gold "Welcome to Nyack" sign on Route 59 has had a big hole in the center, where a portrait of the Hudson River had once been.
The sign, which also includes smaller signs from groups such at the Rotary Club, the YMCA, Nyack Hospital and Nyack College, had come to look like a kind of carnival game—one in which you try to toss something through the hole to win a prize.
But those days are gone. The welcome sign has been repaired, and its centerpiece portrait with a sailing boat and a view of Hook Mountain is back. The sign is located on the south side of Route 59 just before the New York State Thruway overpass at the tiny, one-way Kilby Street, which connect Route 59 to Upper Depew Avenue.
