Art Barn Moves North in Ossining
Going on their 41st year, the Art Barn is now sharing digs with Hoye Textile on North Highland.
Art Barn has left the building where it lived for the last 30 years, but not to worry, it is alive and well further up the road.
“Everything’s still the same, except it’s 325 North Highland,” owner Carolyn DiLemme said.
The custom framing/gift shop/gallery has moved further into the Hoye Textile building, where they have taken over the half formerly occupied by an architect.

Their new building is set back from the road, between Atria and Mystic Place, and was set up more like an office so there’s been some work to get it opened up and get the public aware of the move.
DiLemme said she harbors little nostalgia for their former digs at 211 North Highland as they were affectively fumed out by the autobody operating out of the downstairs. She says the landlords there have likely already found a new tenant. A crew is at work renovating the vacant space now.

“It’s a little small for us,” said DiLemme of their new space, “but it doesn’t smell and it’s warm.” There's a distinct area when you first come in for a gift shop, which makes for a nicer experience, DiLemme said.
The Art Barn is going on its 41st year in business. It's first location was closer to what is now the Arcadia shopping center. DiLemme is the third owner, since 2000.
One long-term resident has noticed the shift in the Ossining art market and the business culture in general through the decades. “When we moved to Ossining 23 years ago, there were two art supply stores. Of course there was also a shoe store, a movie theater, a country-western nightclub…”
