Back To School: Ossining Deals With The Heat
There are Hot Weather Protocols in the district, and families are reminded to send your child to school with a water bottle.
OSSINING, NY — Ossining schools reopened during the hottest week of the summer, so Interim Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter sent out a email about the heat.
- School Buildings: As a result of the recent heat index, some of our schools have activated our Hot Weather Protocols. These efforts include switching classrooms if needed, modifying recess, and modifying PE classes, among others. Please send your child with a water bottle to school each day and remind them to stay hydrated. Filtered water bottle refilling stations are available in all school buildings. Students should also wear loose fitting weather/school appropriate clothing.
- School Buses: Most of our school buses are air conditioned. We have contacted our bus company and requested that those vehicles that do not have AC must have all windows and vents open to maximize air flow.
She also updated families on the possibility of offering free lunch to all students for this school year.
"As a reminder, we will continue to offer FREE Breakfast to ALL students. We are awaiting formal approval from the Child Nutrition Department for the New York State Education Department to determine if OUFSD qualifies for FREE lunch for all students through the Community Eligibility Provision program. As soon as the district receives notice of approval we will notify families of the effective date of the approval," she wrote.
