Buchanan Village Election is Today

Three candidates are vying for two seats in the March 19 election in the Village of Buchanan.

Trustees Theresa Knickerbocker and Duane Jackson, the Democratic candidates, will square off against former mayor, and Republican candidate, Al Donahue Tuesday.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. inside Buchanan Village Hall, located at 236 Tate Avenue.

Below you will find brief bios of the candidates:

Al Donahue

• Mayor for six terms with seven years without a tax increase
• Trustee for one term
• Retired New York State Trooper of 29 years and US Army Veteran
• Life Member of the Buchanan Fire Department, Parishioner of St. Christopher's Church, and Member of Buchanan Senior Citizens Club
• Married to Carolyn for 53 years, father of five children, grandfather of 21 grandchildren
• Resident of the Village of Buchanan 48 years

Duane Jackson

• Appointed as village trustee after Jane Hitney stepped down.
• Ran for the Democratic nod in last year’s general election for the 18^th U.S. Congressional District.
• Helped law enforcement officials discover a terrorist's bomb in a SUV parked in Times Square on May 1, 2010.
• 15 Years of experience as a business owner.
• Former deputy director of housing, preservation and development in Brooklyn
• Former city planner for the New York City Board of Education.
• Member of the Buchanan Engine Company 1, America Legion Post 274 and Vietnam Veterans of America.
• Has resided in the village for 18 years.
• Married with two children who have graduated Hendrick Hudson High School.

Theresa Knickerbocker

• Served as village trustee from 1994 to1998 and from 2009 to the present
• Served as the village deputy mayor from 2009 to the present
• Member of Buchanan Engine Company 1
• A local business owner
• Lifelong resident of Buchanan
• Board member of the Lincoln Society
• A founding member of Buchanan Day
